Officially visiting Canada
Matt Yglesias asks:
But can it really be true that this is "the first official visit to Canada by a U.S. president in nearly 10 years." Wasn't Bush in lovely Québec City just a few years ago for the FTAA summit? That sounds like official business to me.
There's visits, and then there are
official visits. Official visits involve formal invitations to come and hang out together, generally in the capital of the country you're visiting. On an official visit, Bush will likely get to do such things as address
Parliament, meet the
Governor-General, and as is the way these days, see the native people perform a dance for the visiting chief from abroad.
I hope George remembers to send a postcard to Laura in the excitement of it all.
