Description
SEWAGE indicates whether the household has access to a sewage system or septic tank.
Comparability - General
The first digit of SEWAGE indicates whether the household has access to a sewage system or septic tank. This information is fully comparable across all samples. When more detail is available, the second digit distinguishes households connected to a sewage system from those with a septic tank. No detailed information is provided for households without a septic tank or connection to a sewage system. These include households with latrines, chemical toilets, other facilities, or no toilet facilities at all.
Comparability - Vietnam
There are no problems of comparability across the Vietnam samples. SEWAGE is constructed from responses to the "type of toilet" question. The response "flushing toilet" has been coded as "Yes, sewage or septic tank" for the SEWAGE variable. Other responses have been coded as "No, not connected to sewage system or septic tank."
